Neuchâtel
: Michelin's recommendations
Neuchâtel enjoys a charming location between the lake of the same name and the Chaumont's slopes. The pale ochre-coloured houses of its various quarters spread out in the heart of the wine-producing region. The town joined the Swiss Confederation in 1815, after having been the King of Prussia's personal possession from 1707. A centre of research for the clock-making industry, a university town, it is also a great centre of French culture. The lake, 38km long and 8km wide, is the longest one belonging strictly to Switzerland.
