Space restrictions necessitate that the collection is exhibited on rotation. German, Austrian and Swiss masters (15C-18C); in addition to these formal works, 19C-20C canvases depicting peasant life in Toggenbourg and Appenzall are charming for their freshness and innocence. 17C Dutch painting is a strongpoint of the collection, as are 19C German and French art. Modern and contemporary works by Taeuber-Arp, Klee, Picasso and, on the first floor, installations by Richard Serra and Nam June Paik.
