You reach the old town by the Baseltor and Bieltor. With their houses with brightly coloured shutters, wrought iron signs and overhanging roofs, streets such as Hauptgasse and Schiedengasse are typical of the region. Decorated with a fountain of painted characters from the 16C and dominated by the 12C Clock Tower, Marktplatz is at the centre of the town.
