Built near Lake Sempach, the little town of Sursee has belonged to Lucerne since 1415 and has kept a part of its medieval charm despite the fires that ravaged it between the 14C and 17C. Several traces of its rich architectural past remain, especially the Basel gate, a vestige of the old ramparts, and the town hall, a very beautiful edifice from the late Gothic period (mid-16C).
