Scattered across a sunny slope of the Val de Bagnes, Verbier offers views over the mountain ranges of Grand-Combin and Mt Blanc. Although its traditional chalets and hotels are an attempt to preserve a mountain village atmosphere, the success of the place makes it difficult to maintain. Every winter, the large area developed for skiing at Verbier attracts great numbers of winter sport fans, generally a smart, principally Swiss crowd. In summer it fills with hikers and the village plays host to one of the most famous mountain music festivals.
