This museum’s main focus is on modern art, but the first floor has works by Rembrandt, Ruysdael, Fra Angelico, Rubens, and Swiss artists like Hodler, Segantini and Füssli. Contemporary artworks include Pop Art, Dubuffet, Rothko and Pollock. On the second floor, as well as Bonnard, Gauguin, Chagall and van Gogh, Expressionist, Cubist and Surrealist works are displayed. It also has the most important Edvard Munch collection outside Scandinavia, plus a unique selection of Alberto Giacometti pieces.
