In English-style parkland overlooking Lake Leman, this 1730s French-style château houses the Swiss National Museum, chronicling the nation’s fortunes during the 18C and 19C. Beyond its ground floor display (Le Rêve des Lumières), the first floor exhibit, La Suisse en mouvement focuses on Swiss history from 1750 to 1920 (from the French Revolution to birth of the federal state). The cellars deal with the pre-industrial economy while the top floor looks at immigration, emigration and tourism.
