This church stands in the upper part of the village, where some wood houses stand as reminders of old Meiringen, ravaged by fire in 1879 and 1891. The current building (1684) is the fifth church built in this place. During renovations, the remains of an earlier 11C church were found and in the upper church, a series of Romanesque frescos.
