The centre’s primary role is research and protection of the coral reef. Its aquarium is open to the public; divers and swimmers come here to identify the array of species seen below the waves. All visitors will get an idea of the diversity of the Red Sea without running the (very slim) risk of marine predators. The stuffed shark in the entrance hall presents no danger! Sometimes a little patience is required in waiting for the fish as they emerge from their hiding places to permit identification.
