Wadi Rum’s high cliffs seem to advance in the face of an ocean of sand Its steep rockfaces of wind-burnished ochre sandstone rise among broad sandy plains. Only Bedouin venture into this inhospitable place, their flocks grazing alongside encampments of black tents, pitched near water sources and the odd patch of meagre pasture. By 4x4 or camel, on foot or horseback, visitors can explore this majestic desert with its Bedouin denizens; try and overnight here if at all possible.
