This little town in the Jabal al-Druze boasts the ruins of the Roman city of Philippopolis. Built in the 3C by the Emperor Philip the Arab, who hailed from a pre-existing settlement on the same site, it was abandoned two centuries later. The remains, among which the theatre is the best preserved, today stand amidst the houses of a Druze community who settled here in the 19C. A museum displays mosaics unearthed during excavations.
