Jabal al-Druze
Jabal al-Druze
: Michelin's recommendations
To the southeast of Damascus lie the volcanic regions of the Hauran and Jabal al-Druze. Their fertile soil has long made them Syria’s bread basket, hence the presence of numerous Roman towns, including the renowned Bosra. Black basalt was used in building construction, lending an air of mystery to the area’s ruins and landscapes. Another oddity of the region pertains to its largely Druze population, who are often blonde-haired and blue-eyed; they are also distinguished by their dress.
