This Greek Orthodox church dates from 1515 according to the inscribed lintel above the main east door. Unlike the basilica-type Byzantine churches of northern Syria, this is built to an octagonal plan within a square. The four corners are modelled as exedras. The modern dome rests on eight massive piers, while the basalt-tiled ambulatory is remarkable for its sobriety and precision. In the apse behind the iconostasis is a tomb believed by the locals to be that of St George.
