Mount Qassioun rises to a height of 1 150m on the northwest of Damascus, the streets of which run some way up its slopes. Climbing it offers an extraordinary panorama over Syria’s capital, especially at night when the city shimmers with thousands of lights. Halt at one of the café terraces lining the street heading uphill and enjoy the view.
