A huge protected area of around 50 000km², Selous Game Reserve is crossed by large herds of elephants, buffalos and zebras. The Rufiji river, which runs across the reserve, is home to crocodiles and hippopotamuses, and you may also catch a glimpse of lions prowling in wait for their prey.
