The Ancient City is a park that has been called the world's largest outdoor museum, with accurately and meticulously recreated replicas of Thailand's most historically significant structures.
The Ancient City offers over 300 lush acres designed in the elephant-head shape of Thailand. It's a wonderful journey through the cultural heritage of Siam, where you'll see the history, arts, cultures, religions, and thoughts and beliefs of Thais. Replicas of the country's most historically significant structures were accurately and meticulously recreated, and originals were relocated for preservation.
Over 100 monuments have been collected or reproduced; there are typical Thai houses from the past, and exquisite Thai wall paintings were rescued from the old capital of Ayuthaya. Traditional scenes of Thai life are represented by the Market of Yesteryear, the Floating Market, and the Northern Thai Hamlet.
Other outstanding works in the Ancient City include the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya, the Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Wat Khao Phra Viharn on the Cambodian border. There are sculptures from the Thai epic story, the Ramakien, a display of the Royal Barge procession, and a model Thai village in which craftsmen produce ceramics, paper umbrellas, and lacquer items.
