Come face-to-face with tigers living harmoniously with monks at a monastery dedicated to providing sanctuary for these majestic animals. Also, visit two tributes to the lives lost during World War II.
Depart from Bangkok by air-conditioned bus to Kanchanaburi province. Visit the JEATH Museum, located a short distance from the infamous Bridge on the River Kwai. Named after the soldiers from Japan, England, Australia, America, Thailand, and Holland, the museum recreates the huts used to jail prisoners of war during WWII. Inside, pictures of the soldiers, bunks, and personal affects bring to life a sobering picture of the prisoners' daily living conditions.
You'll also make a stop at the Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetery, which commemorates the many soldiers who lost their lives during their forced participation in the construction of the railway line from Bangkok to Rangoon that became known as the Death Railway. Nearly 7,000 soldiers have been moved to this cemetery to be interred and honored.
After a refreshing lunch, your tour continues with a trip to Tiger Temple, a Buddhist monastery that has dedicated itself to providing sanctuary to all wildlife, and is committed to preserving the endangered tiger. Man and beast live here harmoniously, and the monks invite you to appreciate the majesty of the tiger up close. From its humble beginnings in 1994, the monastery has become a haven for the protection and rehabilitation of all animals, and today various animals including peacocks, deer, boars, and horses call the monastery home.
