This temple will come as something of a surprise to those visitors arriving from Sukhothai or Ayutthaya who have become used to seeing chedi in the shape of a bell or crowned with a lotus bud spire. In fact, the square-shaped chedi at the Wat Chet Yot, with its seven spires, is unlike anything else in Thailand, having taken its inspiration from the Indian temple where Buddha found enlightenment. Note the splendid stucco bas-reliefs.
