This is the pearl of Chang Mai – a temple founded in 1345, but mostly rebuilt in the 19C in the Lan Na style, which is characterised by its richly decorated wood carvings. Wat Phra Singh houses a number of treasures: take time to admire the splendid Phra Wihan Lai Kam (note the gable) which houses a statue of Buddha in Sukhothai style, and the wall paintings of the 19C, which are unfortunately in poor condition. The temple is well worth a visit during the lively New Year festivities (Songkran) which take place in April.
