It is a miracle that such a charming village just a few kilometres from Sousse has resisted the invasion of tourists. The small fishing port is well worth a visit first thing in the morning for the glimpse it offers of normal life here. From the main square, overlooked by the mosque, head alongside the cemetery where tombs seem to occupy the slope all the way to the sea. In the village’s narrow, winding streets, a few locals still weave esparto grass on their doorsteps and young children offer a timid “bonjour” to the backdrop of the muezzin calling the faithful to prayer.
