Houmt Souk : Michelin's recommendations
Houmt Souk offers several pleasant surprises for visitors. The Ghazi Moustapha fort, or Borj el-Kebir, built in the 15C, still seems to offer protection to the town, which has an attractive pedestrianised centre, where delightful houses have been built near old fondouks and several mosques (closed to visitors). The market, the heart of local life, attracts inhabitants from across the island, while the souks display a range of typical arts and crafts. The interesting Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions is also well worth a visit.
