The Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions is housed in the Dar Jallouli, which takes its name from the wealthy family that built the house in the 17C. This dynasty of governors made its fortune through arming ships for corsairs. Their home is a small Andalusian-style palace decorated with openwork stucco, painted wood, sculpted stone and ceramics, and housing a collection of traditional objects, jewellery, clothes and paintings on glass. With its stocked shelves, kitchen and pantry full of provisions, Dar Jallouli has retained the intimate character of a house that is still inhabited.
