This is without a doubt the most fascinating museum in southern Tunisia. The largest private museum in the country, it is owned by the mayor of Tozeur, Abderrazak Cherait, whose aim was to create a museum dedicated both to the town and the Sahara. Hidden behind its austere light brick walls is a palace, a replica of the type of wealthy residence found in northern Tunisia. The Museum of Arts and Traditions houses a collection of art dating from the 17C to the 20C which comes from Tunisia and the main regions of the Ottoman Empire (Turkey and Syria). The entrance to the museum is to the left of the main courtyard, which is a pleasant place for a refreshing drink.
