Situated off the main tourist routes, the El-Jem Archaeological Museum is well worth a visit for its peaceful atmosphere and well-presented collections. The museum is home to huge mosaics discovered during excavations carried out at ancient Thysdrus. The mosaics are well preserved and have retained their original colours. The museum has recently doubled in size and is now able to display mosaics which have never previously been exhibited.
