Nestled between the kasbah and the Sidi Henni Fort, the old port is the most charming feature of Bizerte. The quayside stretches in a semicircle along the sienna ramparts of the kasbah and the town’s squat whitewashed houses. The scene here is a delightful one with small boats painted in red and green bobbing up and down in the calm water, fishermen unloading their catch for sale in the nearby market, and others raising their anchor as they prepare to head out to sea. Bizerte has the appearance of a small Provençal or Spanish fishing port, where the only difference appears to be the replacement of a bell tower with a minaret.
