Designed by the great Sinan, the 16C imperial architect appointed to the service of the sultans, the Rüstem Pasa mosque has the typical charm of a quiet place of worship. It is justly famous for its Iznik ceramics, the traditional blue tones of which are enriched here with red and turquoise. On the entrance portico, but above all on the mosque’s interior, including the columns and the minbar, this ceramic decor features an abundance of floral and geometric motifs in an explosion of sophisticated shapes and colours almost unique in Istanbul.
