Ortahisar : Michelin's recommendations

Visible for miles around, the rocky peak of Ortahisar stand out like a giant belfry. The village (5 200 inhabitants), huddled below the rock, is criss-crossed by narrow alleyways. Clinging to the side of the rock, the oldest houses are linked by a maze of underground tunnels. Hollowed out of the rock, and stretching right up to its summit like an anthill, these cave dwellings were once home to around 100 people. They were also used as a place of refuge during times of invasion, as was the citadel, Kale, which crowns the top of the rock.
