Uçhisar : Michelin's recommendations
Although not as high as its neighbour in Ortahisar, the peak of Uçhisar is nonetheless an impressive sight. An enormous rock full of caves and holes and standing in the middle of nowhere, the peak was once used as a watchtower and place of refuge for the local villagers. A tunnel enabled those under siege to leave the rock to look for provisions and to escape from their attackers. From the top, the views of the region are superb, with stone dunes extending in the light as far as the eye can see. Inhabited by Greeks until 1923, the village has retained some fine stone houses with beautiful façades decorated with reliefs.
