The avenues in Konya converge at the hill on which Alaaddin Park is situated. The park is home to the 13C Alaaddin Mosque, which is dominated by its minaret and lined with classical columns. The mosque has the simple elegance that is typical of Seljuk monuments, but also shows Arab influences thanks to its architect, who was originally from Damascus. It boasts a portal of polychrome marble, and a wooden minbar carved with fine arabesques. The tombs of Seljuk sultans can be seen in the courtyard. At the end of the park, all that remains of the sultans’ winter palace is a small ruined wall.
