Alsancak is one of the only districts in the city that was not destroyed by the fire in 1922. The district is gradually being restored with access for pedestrians only. Here, you’ll find a highly refined Ottoman-style bourgeois area with elegant one- or two-storey houses painted in pastel shades and adorned with façades featuring attractive bow or guillotine windows worthy of the finest English colonial mansions. This pedestrianised area is a welcome haven of calm in this bustling city.
