The oldest mosque in Ankara, dating from the 13C, Aslanhane incorporates fragments of ancient stones, particularly in the lower section of the brick minaret. The prayer hall is covered with a wooden ceiling which is part of the original building (1299), an unusual structure supported by beautiful columns with ancient capitals. The mihrab is adorned with enamelled faience and the elegant minbar is sculpted from cedar wood.
