Hollowed out in the 11C, Hallaç Monastery was abandoned at the time of the Seljuk invasion at the end of the 11C. The rooms surround a huge natural courtyard which opens into the rock and is sculpted with niches. The main church is to the right, surmounted by a dome. This then leads into a large room with columns decorated with finely carved capitals. A second smaller church opens to the left; this is crowned by a central dome, which has retained an unusual sculpted figure of an imp or sprite wearing a pointed hat.
