A visit to the ancient site of Kaunos (10C BC) is a delightful journey back in time. Tucked away in the Gulf of Koycegiz, this site is reached by boat, from which the first glimpse is of the fish dams and tanks teeming with bass and mullet. The walk to the site passes through thick undergrowth where wild grass and olive trees have grown amid ruins to create an enchanting scene. The main sights here include tombs carved into rock, a Roman theatre and baths, and a Byzantine church from a later period (5C).
