The hidden landscapes of the Kizil Çukur Valley wind their way for 3km between tufa hills and fairy chimneys. The green ribbon of the apricot orchards contrasts with the ochre of the stone which blazes in a cameo of copper, dark purple and scarlet hues at sunset. At the entrance to the valley stands the Uzumlu Kilise (Church of Grapes), the modest remains of an 8C hermitage. The church has retained its warm-coloured frescoes which depict the apostles and one of the rare representations of the Madonna and Child of Cappadocia.
