The remarkable 15C Murat II complex is also renowned for its medersa and its cemetery, laid out like a park and planted with a vast array of roses and lilies in the shade of cypress trees to create a tranquil and heavenly scene. In particular, the complex houses the tomb of Murat II, who ordered the construction of the mosque and died in 1451; note the attractively carved painted wood awning preceding the tomb.
