This necropolis is one of this ancient city’s most beautiful sights. Access to it is through the middle of a huge maze of rocks where the silence is striking, broken only, perhaps, by the sound of a nomadic shepherd calling out to his herd of goats. The whole mountain is studded with tombs, most of which have been dug out of the rock; others are purpose-built vaults covered with enormous monoliths. The necropolis overlooks the ruins of a small fortified monastery built on a rock, from where visitors can enjoy a magnificent view.
