This citadel stands on the top of Ayosoluk Hill, affording aerial views of the surrounding landscapes that separate the town from the sea. Its ramparts, punctuated by twenty towers, have been rebuilt using stonework pillaged from the neighbouring ancient city of Ephesus. A number of these stones have also been re-used on the Gate of Persecution, which provides access to the site.
