This theatre was one of the largest in the Ancient world. Its stage wall, which was as richly decorated as the façade of the library of Celsus on the same site, measures no less than 18m in length; sadly, little remains of it, although the system of vaults that supported the stage is still visible. The cavea, which forms a semi-circle 154m in diameter, was able to accommodate 24 000 spectators. From the top tier, at a height of 38m, the splendid views encompass the town and the contours of the ancient port, a splash of greenery at the end of the Arcadian Way.
