This tavern is one of the most celebrated hostelries from the early days of the country. Functioning now as a museum and restaurant, it is actually two joined brick structures. Gadsby's famous ballroom, which occupies much of the second floor of the Federal building, was the scene of many elegant soirees. Its original paneling is now conserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A musicians' gallery is cantilevered out over the ballroom.
