Hammond Harwood House
Hammond Harwood House : Michelin's recommendations
This outstanding example of the Georgian style (1775), with its unusual bowed wings, is the work of William Buckland. One of the country's first and foremost architects, Buckland emigrated from England in 1755. A joiner by trade, Buckland had a keen eye for detail, and the elaborately carved rose garlands above the entryway fanlight and the ornate woodwork and plaster ornamentation within are glorious proof of his skill. Inside, the tall arched window above the staircase is modeled on one found in London's Church of St. Martin's in the Field.
