Margaret Mitchell House and Museum
: Michelin's recommendations
Nicknamed "the dump" by the sprightly Atlanta writer who penned the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Gone with the Wind (1936), this restored house is the city's only surviving building with a connection to Margaret Mitchell (1900-49) and her epic novel of the Civil War. Visitors can view the tiny, ground-floor apartment where the author lived (1925-32) and the living-room nook where she wrote the renowned classic. Filled with memorabilia, props and footage from the 1939 film, the Gone With The Wind Museum opened here in 1999.
