Friendly and scenic, Chattanooga offers a first-rate aquarium, abundant fine arts, natural wonders and a goodly selection of lodgings and eateries. The name is a Cherokee Indian name for Lookout Mountain, which looms to the south. The town became a transportation hub in the early 19C thanks to steamboat traffic on the Tennessee River. Today you can stroll the Bluff View Art District, replete with galleries and cafes high above the river's bend.
