This marvelous Neoclassical palazzo served as the city's first library when completed in 1897. Noteworthy elements include a smooth limestone facade, recessed windows and elaborate Renaissance moldings at the entrance, cornice and balconies. Step inside to admire the inlaid-marble grand stairway that ascends from the Washington Street entrance to Preston Bradley Halla, with its Tiffany stained-glass dome. Another magnificent stained-glass dome is located on the north end of the second floor. A wide array of free public programs is offered here daily, including concerts, film, dance, lectures and art exhibits.
