Pilsen started out in the 19C as the largest settlement of Bohemian immigrants in the country. Over the years, Germans, Irish, Polish and Lithuanians passed through here, and today Pilsen forms the core of Chicago's enormous Hispanic population. The neighborhood, which centers on Halsted and 18th streets, also attracts artists, who open their studios in late September or early October each year.
