This excellent and diverse museum counts some 30,000 items in its permanent collection. Objects from American popular culture (vintage automobiles, teddy bears, Coca-Cola memorabilia) are displayed in the Root Family Museum, while a prehistory wing showcases a 130,000-year-old grounds sloth skeleton. The Cuban art collection chronicles life in Cuba from 1759-1959, while the African art gallery presents 165 masks, totems and other objects from 30 different cultures.
