The western part of Fire Island is named for Robert Moses, the former superintendent of Long Island parks. The park's dunes and sea grasses provide refuge for various waterfowl. The Atlantic coast is excellent for surf casting-try your hand at this method of fishing by tossing bait into the ocean where the waves break on the beach.
