Beginning the procession, the square at University Park, which was once a Civil War drilling ground. Just north, the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza centers on the Classical Memorial Building, its south steps graced by the 25ft-high bronze Pro Patria. Inside is the awe-inspiring Shrine Room. Just north, a black and gold obelisk marks Veterans Memorial Plaza, and the last memorial on Meridian Street is the two-block-long American Legion Mall, which features a black granite cenotaph honoring Indiana's war dead. On the west side of Meridian, the massive, 1929 Gothic-style Scottish Rite Cathedral is crowned with a 212ft tower.
