This stately Federal-style mansion was home to James Buchanan (15th US President) from 1848 until his death. Furnishings reflect Buchanan's tenure as head of state, and a number of the decorative pieces were gifts from foreign dignitaries.

Completed in 1797, the Georgian-style Old City Hall houses a collection of Pennsylvania folk arts, furniture and silver. Changing exhibits feature needlework, quilts and fraktur, an illuminated script.

Some 20 restored or re-created buildings accurately interpret 18C and 19C Pennsylvania German rural life. Craftspeople demonstrate trades such as shoemaking, quilting and weaving.
