Kentucky Horse Park
Kentucky Horse Park : Michelin's recommendations
Set on the rolling 1,200-acre pastureland of a working horse farm, this facility is a paean to the state's best-loved domestic animal. Everywhere the horse is celebrated, whether it is in the excellent introductory movie, Thou Shalt Fly Without Wings; amid the displays in the International Museum of the Horse, chronicling the animal's history and evolution; or at the twice-daily Parade of Breeds, where horses of every size, shape and pedigree strut their stuff. Envisioned as a facility to showcase part of Kentucky's heritage, the park became a reality in the 1970s when the state purchased the farm and turned it into a tourist attraction. It is also a premier exhibition center, staging numerous equestrian events annually, including the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, where riders qualify for the Olympics. The park is also home to some of the world's greatest competitive horses. Also on the grounds, the American Saddlebred Museum commemorates the only breed native to Kentucky.
