Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this enclave of small-scale Art Deco hotels and apartment houses dating from the late 1920s to the early 40s amounts to the largest concentration of architecture of its kind in the world. Art Deco used decorative stylized elements to embellish simple massive forms. Reveling in its sun-washed locale, Miami Deco went a step further, outlining structures in neon lights at night, and incorporating flamingos, palm trees and other tropical motifs into exuberant door grills, bas-relief plaques, murals and etched windows.
